(More customer reviews)I do video for a living, and duplicate hundreds of DVDs. DVDs can be finicky (this word used alot, so be prepared) in the best of circumstances. Too many things can screw up a successful DVD burn. Even when the burn has executed "successfully", it may have flaws in it that make it unstable for playback in some DVD players, causing error messages and DVDs that won't play right or not play at all. Add to it DVD players that are finicky about playing DVDs with any imperfection and.. well.. you see what I mean. Double-layer discs are even more finicky all around, so you can't afford to use inferior discs.
That's why I ended up spending the extra money, again, for these Verbatim discs. I tried the Philips DVD+R DLs. They worked ok in my 8 year old Sony DVD player, but my finicky JVC standalone burner didn't like them. Playback would get blocky and stop working after 5 minutes of play.Then I had to reset the player to eject the disc!Imagine burning 500 of these and sending them out to customers. What were the chances of it happening to someone else?
There is a big difference in cost - Approximately 1.75/disc for Verbatim and .80/disc for Phillips. But again, a disc that doesn't play well isn't worth a dime. This is not the place to compromise, so stick with the best.
