Overall this is a good media rack, relatively easy to assemble and holds a large amount of media. The instructions claim 500 CD's or 328 DVD's or 164 VHS or 384 Blu-Ray's. Mine's not quite full but it looks like I could get 38 or 39 DVD's in the typical single-disk case per shelf. It should be 41 but I think that would be a really snug fit.

The rack is very utilitarian; just plastic feet, laminated particle board sides and metal rods for shelves. I have mine between two furniture bookcases that hide the sides and all of the holes so it doesn't look too bad. And the description states it's "adjustable" but that means you assemble it in a chosen configuration and if you want to change that you have to disassemble it and rebuild it. Adjustable, just not easily adjustable.

What you get in the box are the parts for two 34" tall "adjustable multimedia storage systems" or "racks" for those of us who didn't major in marketing. These can be used separately or stacked. You get enough metal rods to create up to 10 shelves. Wall straps are also supplied which would be handy if you live in earthquake country.

Assembly took me under an hour. The instructions are sparse and do not explicitly describe shelf spacing for each media type, rather it just provides illustrations. For DVD's shelves are about 9 inches apart, that's 6 empty rod holes between rods. The screws supplied have hex heads and they supply a small hex wrench which is a bit tedious to use for 30 or 40 screws.

If you configure for DVD's you'll get 4 shelves per 34" rack. If you stack the racks the top shelf of the bottom half will be slightly shorter and won't hold typical DVD's but will hold Blu-Ray's so I got 7 DVD shelves and 1 Blu-Ray shelf which worked for me. And it's just gravity and plastic "handle covers" that hold the top half on the bottom. It's fairly stable but I'm not sure I'd stack them if I had small children or large playful dogs in the house.

Since this rack uses metal rods as shelves you MUST use the supplied "rubber grip dividers" (10) which snap onto the shelf rods and hold up media. Note that these grips are not spring loaded as they are on some types of racks. If shelves aren't full then without these grips you risk having stuff fall out. This also means that if you have an active library with people pulling stuff out frequently you're likely to have an occasional mishap when someone fails to readjust a grip. If you have children who might remove things this is probably guaranteed to happen and could get pretty annoying.

That said, if you have a large library and just need a relatively inexpensive, relatively easy to build large capacity media rack this one would work well. It's not perfect and it's not pretty but it is completely functional.
