(More customer reviews)This work straight-up admits that little is known about Bosch's life. Thus, after 7 minutes, the rest of the work is just interpretations of his paintings by British academics.
I love that paintings have lasted more than 500 years. This artist did all of his work before Martin Luther's revolution and much of his work before Columbus crossed the Atlantic. This is great for posterity.
However, while I love French Impressionism and a lot of modern ethnic folk art, I thought the paintings here were not pretty.Just like Bruegl, I wouldn't want any of this art and wouldn't smile if I saw it in a gallery.Bosch's work is preachy; this makes since in its Medieval context.I also think those reading Dante's work may want to view Bosch's painting alongside it.Still, I personally did not need to see people being impaled and being eaten by fish and storks, etc.Bosch crammed so many images in his paintings that they seem cluttered.
I love learning about ancient art, but I must admit that I wouldn't be buying his painting if I won a lottery.
